OUSD Stablecoin Launches with Over 200 Backers, Sets Sights on Global Commerce Dominance
Open USD (OUSD), a dollar-pegged stablecoin backed by over 200 financial institutions and technology companies, has gone live for business payments on September 30, 2026. Issued by Bridge, Stripe's stablecoin infrastructure subsidiary, OUSD is now available through Stripe, Mastercard, and the Visa Stablecoin Platform. The launch comes as the stablecoin market exceeds $300 billion in supply, dominated by Tether's USDT at approximately $183 billion and Circle's USDC at around $74 billion.
OUSD offers structural advantages over its predecessors, including five founding partners holding equal equity stakes, a combined $1 billion in seed liquidity, and distribution through payment networks that collectively cover the majority of global commerce. Stripe President Will Gaybrick said OUSD was designed to become the standard stablecoin for businesses on Stripe.
The company confirmed OUSD will be the default stablecoin for businesses using its financial infrastructure, but existing users won't be required to convert their current balances. Ramp, a corporate spend management platform, is among the early-adopting businesses that will offer stablecoin accounts using OUSD for balances and global payments.
OUSD launched simultaneously across four blockchain networks: Ethereum, Solana, Base, and Tempo, open to businesses on day one. The Solana deployment showed approximately 18 million OUSD in supply held across 47 wallets by the end of September 30, per on-chain data from Solana Compass.
