Pakistan Allocations 2,000 MW for Bitcoin Mining and AI Infrastructure
Pakistan has directed 2,000 megawatts of surplus electricity to Bitcoin mining and artificial-intelligence data centers. The allocation was announced on May 25, 2025, but it does not confirm commercial Bitcoin mining as underway.
Bilal Bin Saqib, CEO of the Pakistan Crypto Council, believes that this initiative could generate foreign-exchange revenue through Bitcoin mining and allow Pakistan to accumulate Bitcoin in a national wallet.
Separately, Pakistan is advancing landfill projects focused on methane capture, renewable energy, and carbon credits. The Mehmood Booti dumpsite rehabilitation project in Lahore covers 43 acres and has a total investment of $18 million. It aims to generate approximately 930,474 verified carbon credits from 2026 through 2040.
The Lakhodair landfill receives over 5,500 tons of waste daily, and a proposed methane-collection project is being prepared for possible cooperation under Article 6 of the carbon market framework.
