Paradigm Labels Zcash as Bitcoin's Private Complement
Paradigm's Matt Huang described Zcash (ZEC) as 'Bitcoin's private complement' in a governance debate on X. He stated this while advocating for continued funding for Zcash developers, citing growing challenges from AI-driven hacking and quantum computing.
Huang's firm holds ZEC but did not disclose the position size or investment strategy. The endorsement came at the peak of an impressive rally that predated Paradigm's statement. ZEC surged from $569 to $1,337 by September 16, a 135% increase over four weeks, while Bitcoin rose 4% during the same period.
Paradigm's investment in Zcash mirrors its commitment to Bitcoin, both sharing a maximum supply cap of 21 million coins and implementing a halving schedule. Zcash differs with shielded transactions that obscure sender, receiver, and transaction amounts using zero-knowledge proofs.
The statement adds no new implications for Bitcoin but suggests adding to existing positions rather than divesting from them. A single statement cannot sustain such a rally indefinitely, and the price could retract toward $569 if the momentum reverses.
