Patoshi Pattern Falls Short of Proving Satoshi's Stash

The mystery surrounding Satoshi Nakamoto's Bitcoin stash remains unsolved after a recent on-chain transfer of 600 BTC sparked speculation about the legendary investor's involvement. The coins, mined in March 2010 and dormant for over 16 years, were transferred in a short window, but blockchain evidence shows no direct connection to Satoshi's holdings cluster.

Blockchain research firm Bitquery examined the underlying block rewards and found that most of the relevant blocks did not match the distinctive mining pattern attributed to 'Patoshi', the name used for the suspected early-miner fingerprint associated with Satoshi. This raises questions about the accuracy of estimates attributing 1.1 million BTC to Satoshi.

According to Bitquery researcher Gaurav Agrawal, even if a mining pattern points to one early operator, it cannot confirm that the same person still controlled the keys in 2026. The blockchain records transactions, not who controls the keys at any given moment.
