Pearl Blockchain Taps AI Muscle for Proof-of-Work Breakthrough
The Pearl blockchain has introduced a novel consensus mechanism called Proof-of-Useful-Work (PoUW), which harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to secure its network. Unlike traditional proof-of-work systems, PoUW uses matrix multiplications, the fundamental operations behind neural network inference, as its proof-of-work function. This allows miners to run computations on high-powered NVIDIA GPUs, simultaneously securing the network and producing real AI outputs.
The project's dual-purpose engine works by performing matrix operations that can serve as part of an AI inference pipeline when a miner processes a block. The results are verifiable on-chain, meaning the network can confirm the work was done correctly without re-running the entire computation.
Pearl has partnered with Together AI to launch a discounted inference endpoint on its network, priced more than 25% below standard market rates. This partnership is subsidized by PRL emissions, allowing miners to earn crypto rewards for providing compute that can be sold at a steep markdown.
