Pectra Upgrade Set for February Testnet Launch
The Ethereum network is set to undergo significant upgrades with its Pectra hard fork, aiming to enhance scalability and reduce costs. The upgrade will integrate Prague for the execution layer and Electra for the consensus layer, bringing eight key improvements.
According to Tim Beiko, an Ethereum core developer, the initial testnet forks of Pectra will occur on Holesky and Sepolia before a mainnet launch in April. The Holesky testnet is scheduled to fork at slot 3,710,976 on February 24 at 21:55:12 UTC.
Pectra's enhancements include improvements to data storage with Blob Spaces, layer two scalability through PeerDAS Technology, and efficient data handling via Verkle Trees. The upgrade also introduces EIP-7251, allowing validators to raise their stake from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH.
