Peirce Exits SEC Amid Crypto Integration Efforts

SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce will leave her position on October 2nd, six months after her second five-year term expired in June 2025. She has been serving as a commissioner since Trump appointed her in 2018 and the Senate confirmed her for a second term by voice vote in 2020.

Peirce, known as 'crypto mom' for her support of the industry, will join Regent University's law school in Virginia as an associate professor in November. She has been critical of the SEC's use of 'regulation by enforcement' on crypto issues and previously led the agency's crypto task force.

The White House has not announced a nominee to replace Peirce, who is the SEC's longest-serving current commissioner. Her departure comes as the SEC takes steps towards integrating cryptocurrency more deeply into the traditional financial system.
