Pendle Grabs DeFi's Spotlight with Yield Markets for Stablecoins and Perps
Pendle is capitalizing on DeFi's biggest waves by creating markets for yield-bearing tokens and perpetual futures funding rates. The platform splits any yield-bearing token into two parts: a Principal Token (PT) that locks in a fixed yield, and a Yield Token (YT) that allows users to speculate on or leverage the floating yield.
The team behind Pendle has identified three growth waves that will define this cycle: stablecoins, tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), and perpetual futures. Stablecoins are growing rapidly, with supply reaching $300 billion in mid-September 2026, up 14% year-over-year. Citi predicts stablecoin supply will reach $1.9 trillion by 2030, while Standard Chartered projects it will hit $2 trillion by 2028.
Pendle's launch of PT/ YT markets for USDG, a Paxos stablecoin, resulted in the platform becoming the largest holder of USDG on Ethereum, with 27.9% of its supply, growing from zero to $121 million in under two months.
