Pentagon Accelerates Missile Production Amidst Critical Shortages

The Pentagon has signed two new framework agreements to boost production of interceptor missile components. The deals aim to quadruple the production rate of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptors and triple that of Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (PAC-3 MSE) interceptors.

The agreements with Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics come as the US is facing a shortage of missiles. According to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the Pentagon needs $67.1 billion to cover expenses and prevent shortfalls in munitions used in military operations.

The THAAD system is capable of destroying inbound enemy missiles from outer space as well as within Earth's atmosphere, while the PAC-3 MSE offers improved range, speed, and maneuverability against a wide range of threats.
