Perak police have cracked down on illegal cryptocurrency mining operations in the state, seizing 168 Bitcoin mining units in four separate raids. The joint operation with Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) targeted abandoned premises used as secret hubs for illicit Bitcoin mining.

The raids took place on August 31 in Sungai Siput and Seri Iskandar, where police discovered a total of 132 mining units at three locations. A 39-year-old local man was arrested during the raid in Taman Alamanda, where he claimed to be unaware of the illegal activities.

The suspects' modus operandi involved breaking into long-vacant properties without the owners' knowledge. The police are investigating the cases under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief resulting in damage and Section 37(1) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990 for tampering with power lines.
