Petrobras Leverages Cardano Blockchain for Sustainable Fuel Production
Brazilian oil giant Petrobras is partnering with Cardano to improve its sustainable fuel production and tracking. The company, ranked among Forbes 500 companies, is using Cardano's Layer-1 blockchain to monitor the progress of lower-carbon fuels, including its Diesel R product. This renewable energy modification aims to make fuel cheaper and more environmentally friendly.
Petrobras is employing two new utility cases for Cardano's ADA blockchain: one tied to sustainable aviation fuel and another centered around data generated at different stages of the fuel's lifecycle. The system links production, transportation, and public application of the renewable fuel energy, enabling companies to report Scope 3 emissions.
Rafael Fraga, Cardano's LATAM Business Development Lead, stated, 'The energy transition will depend as much on trust as it does on new fuels. As value chains become more complex, proving where environmental data comes from, how it moves, and who can rely on it becomes critical.'
