Petrobras Teams Up with Cardano to Track Lower-Carbon Fuel Production

Petrobras, a Forbes 500 company, has partnered with Cardano to track lower-carbon fuel production using the Cardano blockchain. Cardano's Layer-1 blockchain is being used to create two utility cases: one for sustainable aviation fuel and another for Petrobras' Diesel R, a renewable energy modification of diesel. The goal is to make fuel cheaper and more environmentally friendly.

Rafael Fraga, Cardano's LATAM Business Development Lead, notes that trust is essential in the energy transition, and that blockchain can provide a transparent and reliable way to track environmental data. The Cardano blockchain is used to match permanent records on-chain for fair distribution of environmental benefits. The system also links a broader range of production, transportation, and public application of renewable fuel energy.

This collaboration between Petrobras and Cardano aims to solve the challenge of who is eligible to claim a piece of the environmental benefits in accordance with sustainable aviation fuel. The Cardano blockchain provides a layer of audit to ensure fair distribution.
