Petrobras Turns to Cardano Blockchain to Verify Green Fuel Claims
Petrobras, Brazil's state-controlled energy company, has developed two blockchain tools in partnership with the Cardano Foundation and PUC-Rio to track environmental claims tied to its sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel.
The first tool uses a Book-and-Claim model to issue tokens called CS-SAF for each SAF attribute. These tokens can be minted, transferred, and retired to prevent double-counting of benefits.
Passengers can input their flight details to receive a certificate showing their route, distance, and allocation linked to the original fuel certificate.
The second tool targets Diesel R, Petrobras' renewable diesel brand, by logging checkpoints in the production, transportation, and use of the fuel. This builds a single record of its lifecycle aimed at Scope 3 reporting.
Rafael Fraga, LATAM business development lead at the Cardano Foundation, said: 'The energy transition will depend as much on trust as it does on new fuels.'
