Philippine Government Lifts Discord Ban After Emergency Meeting
The Philippine government has ordered local internet service providers to unblock Discord following an emergency meeting between platform representatives and cybercrime regulators on Thursday.
Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center Executive Director Renato 'Aboy' Paraiso confirmed the decision in a livestream after meeting with Discord representatives. He apologized for the disruption caused by the ban, which affected thousands of Filipino remote workers, web3 agency teams, crypto traders, and gaming communities.
The temporary blockade was sparked by campus violence linked to unmoderated online groups on September 21. The government demanded that foreign platforms appoint a Philippine-based representative, implement rapid content removal systems for extremist material and child exploitation, and commit to local safety frameworks.
