Phishing Scam Uses Sponsored Google Results to Steal Trezor User's Life Savings
A cryptocurrency user identified as David reported losing his life savings after searching Google for 'Trezor wallet' and clicking on a sponsored result that directed him to a phishing website.
The fake Trezor page, hosted on Google Sites, allegedly requested the user's wallet recovery information. This sensitive data is used to restore a cryptocurrency wallet on another device, allowing attackers to transfer funds without access to the original hardware wallet.
Trezor has reported an increase in phishing websites appearing in sponsored search results, with some of these sites looking highly convincing and mimicking the company's official website.
The company warned customers not to assume that a sponsored search result is legitimate and to verify that they are visiting the company's official website before downloading Trezor Suite or entering information connected to their wallets.
