Pixelmon Shuts Down After Failed Playtest Leaves Retention Figures Unstable
Pixelmon, a project that emerged from one of the most notorious NFT collections in crypto history, has ceased all game development and laid off its team. The decision came after three weeks of playtesting with an external publisher did not result in a long-term commercial offer.
The project's Genesis sale in February 2022 raised $70 million, but subsequent art reveals bore little resemblance to what buyers expected. The community has already begun circulating proposals for a community takeover.
Prior to the shutdown, Pixelmon had released several games, including Kevin the Adventurer on Base and PixelPals. However, retention figures were reportedly not strong enough to justify further investment.
