Polish Parliament Fails Third Vote on Crypto Law

The Polish parliament failed to lift the presidential veto on the crypto law for the third time. On September 5, the Sejm voted 241-0 in favor of overturning the veto, but fell short of the required 266 votes needed to pass the law.

President Karol Nawrocki had previously rejected the Crypto-Asset Market Act three times, citing concerns about economic freedom and potential risks. The latest vote came after Prime Minister Donald Tusk pushed for an urgent inclusion of the topic on the Sejm agenda amid the Zondacrypto scandal.

Zondacrypto is an exchange accused of embezzling at least $94 million from client funds, with its head Przemysław Kral reportedly fleeing to Israel. The platform's bankruptcy was declared by a Tallinn court in August.
