Polish Prosecutors Charge Individual in Zondacrypto Probe, Seek Pretrial Detention

Share

Polish prosecutors have charged Romana Ż., an individual suspected of participating in an organized criminal group and misappropriating user funds from cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto, with unauthorized changes to computer records and interference with data processing.

The alleged misappropriation totals 7.8 million zlotys ($2.1 million), and prosecutors are seeking pretrial detention for the suspect due to concerns they may flee or interfere with the investigation.

Prosecutors have also charged three others, who were detained on September 2, with money laundering, misappropriation of company assets, and participation in an organized criminal group.

The total losses connected to Zondacrypto are estimated at no less than 350 million zlotys, while the investigation has been merged with a probe into the disappearance of Sylwester Suszek, the founder of BitBay (later renamed Zondacrypto).
