Polkadot Overhauls Blockspace Market with Agile Coretime
Polkadot has introduced Agile Coretime, a new blockspace model that replaces lease auctions with a time-based market. This change is part of Polkadot's upgrade to version 2.0.
Previously, projects competed in slot auctions for long parachain leases. Under the new system, projects buy time on Polkadot's shared security in bulk or one block at a time.
Bulk coretime offers 28-day predictability, while on-demand coretime provides per-block flexibility. The Coretime Chain runs sales and schedules cores, making it easier for smaller teams to start and grow.
Unused time can be resold, reducing waste and allowing chains to pay only for the time they use. This change is expected to make blockspace behave more like a utility bill than a property purchase.
