Polkadot Plunges Amid ETF Setback and Tokenomics Concerns
Polkadot's price has taken a hit over the last 18 hours due to a combination of factors, including the withdrawal of Grayscale's proposed ETF filings and concerns about its tokenomics.
The removal of the ETF proposal, which was withdrawn along with three other altcoin filings, eliminated one of the simpler future demand narratives that retail and some funds might have been relying on for DOT. The news coincided with a price drop from the high-0.88 to 0.89 dollar area toward the mid-0.87 to 0.85 dollar area.
Additionally, fresh social media discussion highlighted that Polkadot's treasury spending is predominantly funded by inflation, rather than organic revenue. A widely shared post on X summarized that Polkadot's organic revenue is on the order of $15,000 to $30,000 per month, compared with treasury operating expenses of roughly $2.2 million per month.
On the technical side, DOT's price action over the last 24 hours resembled range distribution followed by a break lower. The move was driven by a failed breakout and distribution, as well as leveraged positioning that led to stop-loss executions as price drifted downward.
