Polkadot Price Drops as Ecosystem Focuses on Elastic Scaling and Privacy
The Polkadot token, DOT, experienced a price drop to $1.01 on September 13, 2026, according to data from CoinGecko. This represents a 3.8 percent decrease over the past 24 hours.
An explainer post published by BSCN broke down elastic scaling for parachains in Polkadot's ecosystem. Under normal conditions, a parachain holds a single core and receives one block per relay chain block. However, with elastic scaling, a chain can take several cores at once, up to three blocks can land in the same relay chain slot, and cores are bought with DOT through a system called Coretime.
Polkadot's official update highlighted the importance of privacy-first app development, framing it around cypherpunk principles. The post defined a cypherpunk as someone who advocates strong cryptography and privacy-enhancing technology to drive social and political change. Developers are encouraged to build applications on the Devnet, described as a foundation for a more privacy-respecting web.
