Polkadot Updates Product Devnet with New Apps, Stronger Encryption

Polkadot, a leading decentralized platform for interoperability and scalability in Web3, has rolled out a major update to its Product Devnet. The upgrade brings new mobile and desktop apps, stronger chat encryption, and changes to its registries.

The update requires users and developers to take action before moving to the new build. For mobile users, this involves writing down their recovery phrase from the app settings, clearing cloud backups, uninstalling old apps, and reinstalling the new version.

However, there's a warning: clearing the backup before saving the recovery phrase can permanently cut off access to old accounts and connected .dot domains. Old encryption keys will not be carried over, resulting in fresh contacts and chat history.

Developers are also affected, as the .dot name system has moved to new contracts, and the contract registry has been redeployed. Registered names remain available but must be updated, while some published apps may not have carried over correctly.
