Polkadot's Breakout: Legacy Layer-1 Tokens Ride Short Squeeze Momentum

Polkadot led the charge in Tuesday's market rotation as legacy layer-1 tokens rose while Bitcoin and Ether stayed stagnant. The asset saw gains of between 7% and 20%, driven by short squeezes, spiking on-chain activity, and governance proposals reshaping its token economics.

The derivatives short squeeze played a key role, with over $610K in liquidations for DOT positions, amplifying upward momentum through forced buying. On-chain activity surged with daily network usage jumping 150% due to the launch of a new devnet that brought developers and users back to the ecosystem.

Polkadot holders have been voting on several significant referenda impacting token supply dynamics. Proposals #1909 and #1910 focused on adjusting staking parameters and validator incentives, while referendum 1926 directed revenue from JAMKB-related DOT sales to be permanently burned, reducing circulating supply.
