Polkadot's DOT Token Faces Make-or-Break Moment at $1.20
Polkadot's DOT token experienced a significant price swing in September after a brutal summer. The token plummeted from $1.19 in June to a low of $0.73 in August, but then surged 19% on September 7 due to the dotUSD governance vote and ETF inflows. This catalyst was backed by real votes with treasury commitments, not just announcements.
The macro backdrop also played a role in DOT's price increase. Bitcoin reclaimed its $85,000 level for the first time since January, triggering a market-wide short squeeze that CoinGlass reported at $648 million in a single 24-hour window. However, DOT's price gain trailed behind other layer-1 altcoins like AVAX and SUI.
The chart structure is constructive, with DOT sitting above every meaningful moving average on the board. The Bollinger Band placement puts DOT in the upper third of its recent range, but the MACD histogram has flatlined, indicating a lack of momentum. Buyers have run out of urgency without bears stepping in with conviction.
The key levels are $1.20 for immediate resistance and $1.11 as strong support below which the technical bull case starts to degrade rapidly. A daily close above $1.20 with expanding volume would indicate a breakout, while a close below $1.11 would reclassify the September reversal story as a dead-cat bounce.
