Polygon Burn Plan Unveiled Amid Revenue Surge
Polygon is planning to burn 100 million POL tokens, with the mechanism allowing community members to trigger the burn through a permissionless contract. This will establish a recurring process for future supply reductions and reduce the token's total supply.
The contracts are currently deployed on testnet, awaiting final signatures from the Polygon Security Council before mainnet activation. The burn will draw from a base-fee collector contract holding approximately 121 million POL tokens accumulated from network transaction fees.
Polygon has been in a deflationary phase since January 2026, with transaction base fees driving this trend. Meanwhile, the network's revenue has reached $24.5 million for the year to date, surpassing rival networks Arbitrum and NEAR Protocol by significant margins.
