Polygon Lets Strangers Burn 100 Million POL Tokens, Aims to Prove Fee Generation
Polygon is set to allow anyone on the internet to burn 100 million POL tokens through a public contract. According to Polygon Foundation CEO Sandeep Nailwal, the contracts are currently on testnet and will move to mainnet after final Security Council signatures.
The first burn would clear about 83% of the base-fee collector's balance, leaving roughly 21 million POL before more fees arrive. This is not just a one-time event; future burns can be triggered every quarter by anyone in the community.
Nailwal emphasized that Polygon's base-fee system already routes value toward burning, but this new contract changes who gets to finish the job. By making it public and permissionless, Polygon aims to increase transparency and show that its fee machine can keep refilling the collector after the headline number is gone.
