Polygon Payments Infrastructure Hits $3 Trillion Milestone in Stablecoin Transfers
Polygon has reached a major milestone in its development as a payments infrastructure platform. According to data from the network's own team, cumulative stablecoin transfer volume surpassed $3 trillion since September 2020.
The growth was led by significant upgrades and expansions in adoption by payments companies such as Revolut, Mastercard, PayPal, and Cash App. In 2025 alone, $933 billion in stablecoin transfers were recorded, a 237% increase from the previous year.
Polygon's infrastructure improvements included expanding its capacity to 5,000 transactions per second and implementing changes to the fee mechanism to make costs more predictable. The Ithaca upgrade also introduced automatic recovery in the event of a block producer failure and protections against slow-down transactions.
