Polygon Prepares 100 Million POL Burn Amid Deflationary Trend
Polygon is preparing to implement a permissionless burn of 100 million POL tokens, approximately 83% of its base-fee collector. According to Polygon Foundation CEO Sandeep Nailwal, contracts for the burn are currently on testnet and await final Security Council signatures.
The first burn would destroy 100 million POL at once, followed by quarterly burns that anyone in the community could trigger. This move is part of Polygon's efforts to manage its token supply, with ongoing emissions pegged at an effective annual rate of 2% beginning after June 2025.
Nailwal noted that POL has been deflationary since January 2026, and claimed that Polygon generated $24.5 million in revenue for 2026, outperforming Arbitrum's $8.41 million and Near's $5.6 million.
