Polygon Stablecoin Volume Surges to $3T in Just 21 Months
Polygon, a popular blockchain platform, has reached a significant milestone in its stablecoin volume. The network has processed more than $3 trillion in lifetime stablecoin transfers, with a whopping 55% of that volume arriving since January 2025. This means that more stablecoin value has moved across Polygon during the past 21 months than during the network's previous four years combined.
The acceleration in stablecoin volume coincides with Polygon's shift towards payments infrastructure, rather than relying primarily on its older DeFi and NFT narrative. Major payment companies, including Revolut, Mastercard, Cash App, Deel, and Tazapay, have used the network, with Revolut alone moving $810 million through Polygon in 2025. PayPal USD also began issuing natively on the chain this summer.
Polygon's upgrade to increase network capacity to as much as 5,000 payments per second has also contributed to the growth in stablecoin volume. The Ithaca upgrade added safeguards to keep transactions moving if a block producer stalls. Private stablecoin payments that can hide the sender, recipient, and amount using zero-knowledge technology have also been introduced, particularly for institutional users.
