Polygon Users to Trigger Massive One-Time Token Burn
Polygon's chief executive Sandeep Nailwal announced that any user will be able to trigger a one-time burn of 100 million POL tokens once new contracts clear final approvals from the Security Council. The burn contracts are currently on testnet and need signatures from the Security Council before deployment to mainnet.
The burn is part of Polygon's deflationary strategy, which has seen 121 million tokens held in a collector contract since January. In 2026 so far, more than 107.7 million POL have been burned against 105.2 million minted. Nailwal described the network as 'deflationary' since January.
Nailwal also compared Polygon's revenue to that of its Layer 1 and Layer 2 rivals, with Polygon generating $24.5 million in revenue so far this year, more than three times the $8.41 million for Arbitrum and over four times the $5.6 million for NEAR.
