Polymath and CineCity Explore Regulated Film Financing Platform
Polymath and CineCity Studios are exploring a new platform for financing independent films through regulated digital securities. The platform, which is still in its exploratory phase, would connect independent productions with investors through tokenized film investments.
Under the proposed model, Polymath would provide the technical infrastructure for issuing digital securities, onboarding investors, and managing compliance workflows. CineCity, a Chicago-based production company, would contribute its expertise in the film industry to bring new projects onto the platform.
The idea is to make it easier for independent films to access financing, which often relies on complex private deals and limited networks of backers. Tokenization could simplify the ownership layer, making it easier to administer who owns what, who can buy, how transfers are recorded, and how distributions are managed.
While tokenized Treasuries and money-market products have been a natural starting point for regulated tokenization, film finance is a more complex area. Returns in film production depend on various factors such as production budgets, distribution agreements, box office performance, streaming rights, and contractual claims.
