POSCO International Tokenizes Trade Receivables on Avalanche Blockchain
POSCO International, a South Korean trading company, has successfully completed a trade-finance pilot that tokenizes real trade receivables on the Avalanche blockchain. This innovative project involved POSCO International America, Intain, and Olea. The process began with AI systems verifying invoices, shipping records, and other trade documents to confirm the underlying transactions matched before registration.
Once verified, Intain logged the receivables in its network, creating a transparent ownership trail for the assets. Meanwhile, Olea handled the financing using its own capital. This pilot demonstrates POSCO International's testing of multiple blockchain infrastructures, generating $22.2 billion in revenue and operating over 80 global branches.
The company plans to examine stablecoins for cross-border payments and develop digital treasury services. However, broad adoption will require regulatory clarity and institutional trust. The strategy could enhance the efficiency of settlement by reducing paperwork.
