Russian Scammers Lure Investors with Fake Crypto Trading Scheme on Social Media
Russian scammers are exploiting social media and messaging platforms to lure unsuspecting investors into a cryptocurrency trading scheme. The scheme, which mimics legitimate investment opportunities, promises unusually high returns on five major cryptocurrencies traded on the Moscow Exchange.
Promoters pose as 'Accredited Brokers' or 'Technical Partners of the Trading Platform,' claiming that the Moscow Exchange has launched test platforms for trading Bitcoin and other large-cap cryptocurrencies. They promise favorable rates and 'Insider' access, but in reality, they are phishing for user data on fake 'Closed Gateway' websites.
The scam relies on pressure tactics to prompt victims into making quick decisions without verifying the information. Experts warn that legitimate brokers can be identified by a license from the Bank of Russia, which is listed on their website.
