Prysm Patches Sepolia Testnet for 200M Gas Limit Increase Ahead of Glamsterdam
Ethereum client Prysm has released a critical patch for the Glamsterdam test on the Sepolia network, effective October 5. The update automatically adjusts the gas limit for validators to 200 million, a significant increase from the previous default of 60 million. This change eliminates the need for manual configuration, aligning with the upcoming capacity upgrades planned for the network.
The patch also incorporates builder-authentication changes, streamlining validator interactions with the ePBS protocol. This includes updates to how validators configure external block builders, ensuring smoother integration with Glamsterdam’s proposer-builder separation (ePBS). The release notes emphasize that these adjustments are essential for operators testing Gloas builders, as they ensure correct authentication and settings.
Partial data columns are now enabled by default in the latest version, v7.2.1, enhancing blob-sharing efficiency for layer-2 scaling. This optimization reflects broader network improvements aimed at boosting performance. The patch also addresses several issues, including fixes for producing the first Gloas block and replaying historical states when certain records are missing.
Glamsterdam’s activation on the Sepolia testnet is scheduled for October 6 at 13:53:36 UTC. While the upgrade includes significant enhancements like EIP-7732 and EIP-7928, the Ethereum Foundation has not yet set dates for the Hoodi testnet or mainnet. The 200 million gas limit applies only to Sepolia, with no mainnet schedule announced.
