Pump.fun Surge Tied to Buyback Program and Technical Breakouts
Pump.fun (PUMP) recently experienced a surge of 3.27% due to a combination of factors, including its buyback program and technical breakouts. The token's protocol revenue is allocated 50% towards daily PUMP buybacks and burns, with estimated annualized revenue at around $356 million and daily buybacks near $488,000 at current levels.
This supply reduction narrative has been a key driver behind the recent rally, with traders emphasizing that Pump.fun continues to use platform revenue for buybacks and burns. However, some analysts caution that the sustainability of PUMP's move depends on its revenue holding up, as a decline in revenue would undermine the buyback thesis.
Technical indicators also point towards a clean breakout, with PUMP breaking a descending trendline and flipping the $0.0022, $0.0024 area from resistance to support. The token has experienced significant trading volume, exceeding around $150 million daily, and has seen its price rise above all major daily moving averages.
Derivatives traders have also been active in PUMP, with futures open interest climbing about 9% to 84.76 billion tokens over the prior 24 hours. This indicates new leveraged long exposure being built into the rally, which could support further price gains.
