Purpose Investments Stakes $80M in Ethereum, Signaling Institutional Confidence
Toronto-based Purpose Investments has staked $80 million in Ethereum, signaling confidence in the cryptocurrency's long-term viability.
The company, which manages Canada's largest crypto exchange-traded fund (ETF), staked 42,000 Ether worth approximately $80 million into the Ethereum beacon chain deposit contract. This represents 36.6% of the ETF's spot Ether holdings, currently totaling around 114,900 Ether.
Purpose Investments' move is significant because it not only generates additional returns for investors but also demonstrates a practical use case for ETFs beyond simple price exposure. The staking mechanism reduces the circulating supply of Ether, potentially affecting price dynamics over time.
This development reinforces the maturation of digital assets as an institutional asset class, with ETFs serving as a key gateway. Purpose Investments has been a pioneer in the crypto ETF space, launching North America's first Bitcoin ETF in early 2021.
