Putin Signs Law Regulating Russia's Cryptocurrency Market
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law that comprehensively regulates the circulation of digital currencies and digital rights. The new rules will come into effect on September 1, 2026.
Cryptocurrency trading will be organized through regulated platforms, while storage and accounting of assets will be transferred to digital depositories. Brokers and management companies can act as intermediaries between exchanges and clients, connecting Russian investors with foreign infrastructure.
Crypto exchangers will also receive legal status, requiring registration in a special register, capital of at least 15 million rubles, and membership in a self-regulatory organization. The transitional period without registration will last until July 1, 2027.
