Russia has taken a significant step in regulating its crypto market as President Putin signed the country's first comprehensive crypto law. The Law on Digital Currencies and Digital Rights, effective September 1, 2026, brings clarity to the industry by recognizing digital currency as property.

The new law establishes licensed exchanges under Central Bank oversight, sets up digital depositories for ownership records, and regulates mining and custody. Retail investors will be limited to 300,000 rubles yearly after passing tests on major coins like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT.
