Qivalis Banks Forge Stablecoin Partnerships Ahead of 2026 Launch
Qivalis, a consortium of 12 European banks, is making progress on its planned euro-pegged stablecoin. The launch is targeted for the second half of 2026. The consortium is in advanced talks with crypto exchanges, market makers, and liquidity providers to distribute the stablecoin.
According to Jan Sell, Qivalis CEO and former head of Coinbase in Germany, the consortium is evaluating both European and international exchange partners. Sell framed the project's priority as offering a regulated, domestic alternative to dollar-denominated stablecoins.
The consortium requires that all distribution partners comply with the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation. Bit2Me, a MiCA-licensed exchange based in Spain, has held talks with at least one of the consortium's member banks. The Qivalis stablecoin will be backed 1:1 with at least 40% held in bank deposits.
