Qualcomm Buys Robotics Software Specialist PickNik for Physical AI Push

Qualcomm has announced its acquisition of PickNik, a robotics software company focused on motion planning and manipulation. The deal is aimed at strengthening Qualcomm's position in physical AI, where artificial intelligence systems interact directly with machines such as industrial robots, autonomous mobile robots, and humanoids.

PickNik is the developer and steward of the open-source MoveIt robotics framework, which will be integrated more closely with Qualcomm's Dragonwing robotics platforms. The acquisition adds another software layer to Qualcomm's growing robotics stack, which already provides processors designed for tasks such as vision, sensor fusion, edge AI inference, and real-time robotic control.

Qualcomm has been expanding its Dragonwing platform throughout 2026 as it targets industrial and commercial robotics. The company has launched newer Dragonwing processors this month aimed at bringing AI and real-time computing into a broader range of industrial and connected devices.
