Quantum Computing Not Yet a Threat to Crypto Holders, Says Binance CSO
Binance's Chief Security Officer Jimmy Su says that quantum computers are not an immediate threat to crypto holders. Instead, he identifies phishing, malware, and stolen credentials as the main risks. Su made these comments during a company Q&A on quantum computing, noting that the technology is still in its early stages and not yet advanced enough to break the cryptography securing blockchains.
'Quantum computing is a real long-term security issue, but it's not an immediate threat to your crypto today,' Su said. 'The important thing is that we prepare before that changes.'
He emphasized that users should focus on everyday threats such as phishing, malware, social engineering, compromised credentials, and poor wallet security.
Data from the first half of 2026 shows that attackers continue to exploit operational weaknesses and human error rather than quantum vulnerabilities. TRM Labs recorded $972 million stolen across 207 hacks in the first half of 2026, with most losses coming from infrastructure and operational compromises.
