Quantum-Resistant Bitcoin Transaction Confirmed on Mainnet Without Protocol Change
A quantum-resistant Bitcoin transaction has been confirmed on the mainnet without any changes to the protocol. The transaction was mined using MARA's private Slipstream mempool and a method called Quantum Safe Bitcoin, built by Avihu Levy from StarkWare.
The issue of quantum resistance in Bitcoin is significant because sending Bitcoin involves revealing the wallet's public key, which is exposed in the mempool for around 10 minutes. This is exactly the window in which a quantum computer could exploit it.
Levy built Quantum Safe Bitcoin to close this gap without touching consensus rules. The scheme modifies Binohash, a technique from BitVM creator Robin Linus, by wrapping each transaction in a proof-of-work puzzle whose security rests on hash functions believed to resist quantum attacks rather than the signature itself.
