Quantus Unveils Quantum-Safe Blockchain to Mitigate $2.7 Trillion Crypto Risk
Quantus has launched its proof-of-work mainnet, which includes post-quantum cryptography designed to resist attacks from powerful quantum computers. The network uses ML-DSA, a digital-signature standard finalized by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology in 2024, to authenticate transactions.
The company estimates that approximately $2.7 trillion of crypto market value remains exposed to the long-term risk of quantum attacks on elliptic-curve cryptography.
Quantus co-founder and CEO Christopher Smith said, 'We have known for over 30 years that if anyone builds a sufficiently large quantum computer, then elliptic curves will fail.'
The network aims to avoid the migration problem experienced by other blockchains like NEAR and Algorand, which have introduced post-quantum transaction security but have yet to complete a protocol-wide transition.
