Real-Time Blockchain Monitoring Could Prevent Crypto Losses

Crypto security is shifting from periodic audits to continuous monitoring and automated risk detection. This change could prevent large losses like the September Liquid Network incident, where attackers exploited a vulnerability to withdraw around $320 million in BTC.

The current model of crypto security reacts to exploits after funds have already started moving. Real-time blockchain monitoring can detect abnormal activity as transactions occur, helping security teams respond before stolen assets are fully moved or laundered.

CertiK recorded over $1.31 billion in Web3 security losses across 344 incidents during the first half of 2026, with wallet compromises causing more than $444 million in losses. Monitoring can flag unexpected treasury transfers and suspicious deposits, giving exchanges and protocols time to freeze or investigate activity before stolen funds move further.

The Liquid exploit shows why monitoring reserve movements and unusual asset creation in real-time is valuable. Large losses can unfold faster than traditional security teams can manually investigate them. AI systems are being used to analyze large volumes of transaction and protocol data, identifying patterns linked to hacks, laundering, or abnormal behavior.
