Record Equity Exposure Strengthens Crypto Diversification Case, Says Grayscale
Grayscale, a prominent crypto asset manager, believes that the current market environment presents an opportunity for investors to diversify their portfolios with digital assets. According to Grayscale, record-high household equity exposure and demanding stock valuations make it more necessary than ever to consider adding cryptocurrencies to one's investment mix.
The Federal Reserve's data shows that U.S. household equity exposure reached a record 46.71% at the end of 2025, up from 43.99% in the previous year. Grayscale Head of Research Zach Pandl notes that this increased concentration has left household portfolios more exposed to an equity-market reversal.
Grayscale sees crypto's reset as a diversification opportunity, citing lower valuations and reduced investor positioning after the prolonged downturn. The company also points out that Bitcoin's correlation with traditional markets is changing, with its 90-day Nasdaq 100 correlation falling from above 60% to approximately 33%, while its correlation with gold climbed from near zero to more than 50%.
While Grayscale's argument is based on the current market conditions, it's essential to note that diversification depends on assets behaving differently across various market cycles and periods of financial stress. Bitcoin's large price swings and lack of consistent safe-haven status complicate its role alongside stocks, gold, bonds, and real estate.
