Reform UK Secures £72 Million in Crypto Donations Amid Finance Scrutiny

Share

Reform UK has received a significant boost from two cryptocurrency billionaires who have donated £36 million each to the party. Thai-based businessman Christopher Harborne made the donation in response to fellow billionaire Ben Delo's £36 million gift, which was announced on Friday.

In an article for the Daily Telegraph, Harborne wrote that his donation is a 'philanthropic gift to our country' intended to help Reform prepare for government. He stated that he had been making donations of around £1 million per month and felt inspired by Delo's record donation to match it.

The twin donations come as the party faces scrutiny over its finances, including an ongoing investigation into allegations that it breached rules on political donations. MPs recently backed measures to cap overseas donations at £100,000 and suspend funding through cryptocurrency, but these proposals still need to pass the House of Lords to become law.
