Reform UK's Crypto Cash in Jeopardy as Law Change Looms
Reform UK received £72m in donations from two crypto billionaires, Ben Delo and Christopher Harborne. However, due to an impending law change, they may have to hand back the money by March 2026.
Liz Bates, a former government adviser, predicts that if Reform has to return the funds, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak might call an early general election while Delo and Harborne are unable to donate again.
According to Bates, the new law will cap foreign donations at £100,000. To avoid this, Delo and Harborne would need to have been resident in the UK for at least a year by March 2026.
Bates believes that if Labour calls an election after the law changes but before Delo and Harborne can donate again, it could prevent Reform from using their £72m. She warns that without this money, Nigel Farage's party would be less competitive in an election.
