Regulatory Divergence: Brazil, Europe, and US Approach Cryptocurrency Regulation
Regulators and industry experts gathered at the Digital Assets Conference to compare and contrast the approaches of Brazil, the US, and Europe in regulating cryptocurrencies.
Brazil's approach is centered on a gradual structure built by the Central Bank with frequent dialogue with companies. In contrast, Europe has implemented a comprehensive and more stringent framework, while the US continues to operate under fragmented laws, regulations, and an unfinished broader legislation in Congress.
Nagel Paulino from the Banco Central emphasized that Brazil's regulation aims to facilitate the integration of the cryptocurrency market with financial institutions and foreign investors. He stated that without clear regulatory oversight, companies may struggle to establish relationships with institutional investors.
