Regulatory Progress Fuels Bullish Crypto Case, Says Bitwise CIO
Bitwise Asset Management's Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan believes that the case for a bullish crypto market has strengthened in recent years, citing five key shifts. He notes that regulatory progress, stablecoin adoption, tokenization, revenue-linked tokens, and debt pressure have all contributed to an easier bull case than in previous cycles.
Hougan compared the current environment to 2014, 2018, and 2022, when optimism was harder to sustain due to various challenges. He notes that regulatory progress has been made, with the SEC's proposal for Regulation Crypto Assets allowing qualifying offerings of up to $5 million over four years or $75 million during a 12-month period.
Stablecoins have reached 'escape velocity,' meaning adoption can continue without relying on a single congressional vote. Tokenization is also moving from experimentation toward regulated financial infrastructure, with U.S. and U.K. authorities expanding cooperation on digital assets.
