Regulatory Wins and Mining Woes: Bitfinex Expands in El Salvador Amid Poolin's Bankruptcy
Bitfinex exchange has secured another regulatory approval in El Salvador, expanding its digital asset business in the country. The company received a Digital Asset Service Provider license, which allows it to operate alongside Bitfinex Securities and Bitfinex Derivatives, both of which already have licenses there.
The new approval gives Bitfinex a regulated presence across spot trading, derivatives, and tokenized securities. El Salvador has been building its digital asset market in recent years, with Bitfinex Securities becoming the first international platform to receive approval under the country's Digital Assets Issuance Law in April 2023.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin mining firm Poolin has entered bankruptcy proceedings after facing financial difficulties and liquidity issues. The company was once one of the largest Bitcoin mining pools but struggled with higher operating costs, lower income, and tighter access to funding.
